After filming and editing my music video together, we had a look at producing the packaging for our music video. The photographs that i took were produced to represent the band 'the streets', through my idea of a rough estate with boarded up windows and not a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with the members of 'the streets' coming from Birmingham, in certain areas this may have been familiar to them. The style of 'the streets' genre is also interpreted with a rough edge depicting their rap and garageband style. I also wanted to get a meaning to the title, 'Don't Mug Yourself' expressing a serious side of the streets, which reflects meaning with the dark unwelcoming side of the street photographs. Even though 'Don't Mug Yourself' doesn't depict actually mugging but rather another meaning to the title such as not deluding oneself of a situation that isn't real. Once the photos were taken, they were edited in photoshop so that i could build on that menacing street feel. I feel i created this effectively with black and white photographs which is a theme i wanted to carry on throughout. The black and white helped to bring out the unwelcome tones of the boards and un-loved buildings, taken in Wellington to reflect the meaning of the title and band name that i wanted to deliver. I then included titles of the name of the band, website, and music tracks which are commonly found on music DVD's / CD's. I also included a barcode, and official DVD logos to ensure that the packaging was as authentic as it could possibly be.
Inside Packaging
The inside packaging also reflects different scenes of the streets, the left is a collage of different photos, continued in the black and white theme. The left is where a booklet with information would go if i had the time to produce one. The background would still remain for decoration whenever the booklet was taking out. I did consider placing lyrics over the photos, however i thought i would keep it plain and simple so that everyone can analyze the different scenes within the collage representing the streets. I particularly think the photos of the police and CCTV are very specific to the theme i wanted to get across with the creativity and idea behind my photos of this low class place. On the left of the inside, the background is my only colour photo to stand out against the CD which will be decorated with the black and white photo of the police woman. I particularly like the creativity of the background image, with the flags, and the corner of buildings peeping their way into the photograph. These buildings also look old, and express the theme.
What i have learnt on photoshop?
I have learnt several new skills on photoshop such as how to work the layers, and how to select photos (Command + A), Copy (Command + C) And then paste (Command + V) to resize you then go to Transform, Scale, and then you can resize the image to the size you want. This was mainly the skills i needed to know, as well as the margins needed for the inside and outside of the case. However fitting the photo into a CD circle shape was a lot harder. I created the circle using a tool and then inserted the photo of the police woman. To fit this into the circle the layer then had to be deleted. Rather than having the CD straight in the middle of the case i moved the circle where the CD will be top middle, because then the main interest and features of the photograph (in particular the flags and buildings) will stand out
